Thirty (30) very enthusiastic and energy-filled participants braved the uncertain weather ready to face all the obstacles laid before them. The participants were initially divided into three (3) groups namely: Bloody Red, Dynamic Green and Neptune. Group members were from the different department in the company namely: Call Center, Sales and Marketing, Programming, Front-End Design, Back-End Design, Admin, & Finance including the Managing Directors/Owners. This mix on the team member line-up provided the opportunity to foster deeper camaraderie and teamwork among colleagues from different department.

The three (3) main points highlighted during the program were Communication, Coordination and Cooperation.   The obstacle courses spider web and alligator swamp challenged participants on how to effectively communicate even without the use of words and lack of vision or sight. Communication is getting the response you seek thus saying the words alone is not a guarantee of an effective communication. There is a need as well for the right tone of voice and body language to be able to convey the main message more clearly.

The need for good coordination is also an important element in teamwork and the three (3) groups were challenged to put this into practice in an Amazing Race ala WebDotCom. In this exciting activity you need to locate six (6) stations scattered all over the four (4) hectare venue where Fear factor combined with Survivor like tasks needed to be accomplished in each station. This required physical stamina, wit, speed and even digestive tolerance. The teams exerted all effort to finish the race which they all achieved, team Neptune taking the lead.

The culminating event of the day which transpired towards dusk was the conquering of a fifteen (15) feet wall forebodingly called Wall of Shame.  A single rope was attached to the wall which could only be used once in the activity. The challenge was for each member of WebDotCom to climb the wall in the fastest and safest way possible. The team needed to come up with an effective strategy to safely accomplish the task even without the use of any external support such as a rope. In this final activity the element of cooperation was the main test that needed to be actively put into practice. The team astutely studied the task ahead and brainstormed for the best and safest course of action to take. All throughout this task, each member was committed in doing his part in order to achieve the goal even if it entailed overcoming fear of heights (for those who had), exerting physical effort, disregarding the heat, dirt and even enduring  physical pain.  Thus, in only forty (40) minutes time, a full proof and safe strategy applied, and everyone still in high spirits, team WebDotCom conquered the wall of shame aptly converting it to the WALL OF FAME!

Wall of Fame!

The team building program adjourned with the achievement of team WebDotCom’s overall goal. This but indicates the commitment for the application of good communication, effective coordination and sincere cooperation to provide a service with a calibre of global excellence.  After all, a fifteen (15) feet wall proved no barrier to a focused and determined group of individuals whose diverse personalities complimented rather than was an impediment in their goal. Reminding us of a line in John Maxwell’s 17 Essential Qualities of a Team Player, “A team is many voices, with a single heart”.
